How do I make an appointment?

Students are invited to make an appointment with an Academic Advisor during the semester based on their priority advising times.  Priority advising is determined by the amount of credit hours earned.  Please check your student email frequently to get updates from the Academic Advising Center for your personalized priority date. Walk-in sessions are available year-round.

How do I get an exemption for the placement test?

Students may qualify for an exemption from all or part of placement testing in the following ways:
  • If the student previously earned college credit. The student must submit a college transcript or grade report showing a “C” or better in a college-level (101 or higher) English composition/rhetoric course and/or mathematics course.
  • An ACT score:
    • 20 or higher in English grants placement into COM-101: Composition I.
    • 20 or higher in Reading places students out of all Reading (RDG) courses.
    • 20-21 in Mathematics grants placement into the following courses: MTH-120 (General Education Mathematics), 121 (Math for Teachers I), 139 (Probability and Statistics), 141 (College Algebra).
    • 22-25 in Mathematics grants placement into the following courses: MTH-142 (Trigonometry), 143 (Finite Math), 145 (Business Calculus), 212 (Business Statistics), 215 (Discrete Mathematics).
    • 26 or higher in Mathematics grants placement into MTH-150: Calculus I.
  • An SAT score:
    • 480 in Reading and Writing grants placement into COM-101: Composition I and bypasses all Reading (RDG) courses
    • 520 in Mathematics grants placement into the following courses: MTH-120 (General Education Mathematics), 121 (Math for Teachers I), 139 (Probability and Statistics), 141 (College Algebra).
    • 540 in Mathematics grants placement into the following courses: MTH-142 (Trigonometry), 143 (Finite Math), 145 (Business Calculus), 212 (Business Statistics), 215 (Discrete Mathematics).
    • 600 or higher in Mathematics grants placement into MTH-150: Calculus I.

How do I obtain my transcripts from previous colleges?

Contact all previous colleges you have attended and follow their process for obtaining transcripts.

If you are seeking transfer credit, you must submit an official transcript to the Records Office in S building, room 111. Transcripts are generally evaluated within 72 hours excluding weekends.

MVCC can accept an unofficial/open copy of the transcript only for placement purposes.

How do I obtain my high school transcripts?

Contact your high school to request they send an official copy to Moraine Valley or you.

High school transcripts must be submitted electronically or in a sealed envelope to be considered official. If you receive a transcript in a sealed envelope, it must be opened by a Moraine Valley employee or it will not be valid.

Who can attend New Student Orientation?

What is the maximum credit hours I can take per semester?

How can I petition to graduate?

You can pick up a form from either Academic Advising (S201) or the Records Department (S111).

The deadline for Fall Graduation is September 15, Spring graduation is February 1st, and Summer graduation is June 1st

MVCC’s graduation ceremony can only be attended at the end of the Spring semester.

All students, Fall, Summer and Spring graduates,  are encouraged to attend. Details will be sent to you after you submitted your graduation petition by one of the above deadlines.
